The Shella Bahari Guest House started in 1989 as a small restaurant and over tha years has grown to be a homely inn with all the promise of wonderful hospitality for that much needed rejuvenation. To the community that saw its growth from a fledgling establishment to a beautiful home away from home.the Shella Guest House gives back to its own by offering employment opportunities and play host to village meetings, weddings and other parties in its restaurant. The word 'Shella' in Swahili has many meanings, one of which is a veil' as worn by the local Swahili women portraying Arabic cultural influences. A second meaning is 'Sword dance' which is one of the highlights of the Lamu cultural festival, a huge tourist attraction. History relays that this little settlement was discovered by our fore-fathers, war veterans looking for a place of refuge in the aftermath of colonial skirmishes.

Annual New Years Day dhow regatta - Shella gets to see its most skilled sailors boast their prowess. Wind Surfing:lessons availabele from Salim, beginner's are also welcome. Visit Lamu town: museums, galleries, furniture shops, town and local market etc. Sailing: locals Dhows are good to go anytime,day or night! Why don't you indulge in a moonlight cruise? Fishing: off the pier at high tide. Or 10 miles out for the big ones! Swim or explore the dunes above the 12km long shella beach. Day trips, to nearby Takwa Ruins, Pate island, Kinyike Rock (the best snorkelling) and Matandoni village. The Manager, Tawfiq, will be happy to help you organise any of the above.
