Robert's Camp is a beautiful lakeside campsite, also offering accommodation in bandas and family cottages. Baringo is also home to an unparalleled variety of birds, and some unusual wild creatures. While you may not encounter all of Baringoâ??s 450 bird species, youâ??re likely to spot Verreauxâ??s Eagle Owls, Hammerkops, Storks, Hornbills, and Fish Eagles around the lake, while in the camp itself, you can spend many enjoyable hours identifying the colourful array of Weavers, Starlings, and Sunbirds. We have a number of well trained guides and bookings can be made through the reception for the wide variety of activities on offer. At night you can experience the thrill of seeing or hearing hippos, sometimes with young, grazing on the lawns and returning to the water by day. Meanwhile on the lakeshore, those logs floating by are often slumbering crocodiles! The camp is safe for visitors, but guests are reminded that animals, especially hippos, should never be approached too closely, and special care must be taken after dark.

Location:
Only three and a half hours's drive from Nairobi in the heart of Kenya's Great Rift Valley, lies Lake Baringo - on the threshold of Kenyaâ??s Northern Deserts. The orange-brown waters of the lake and dramatic rocky surroundings provide us with one of Kenyaâ??s most stunning areas.

In the 1950â??s, David Roberts (Carolineâ??s grandfather), a crocodile shooter for the Dragon Tanning Company, set up home on the lakeshore, together with his wife Betty. They started up a fish factory and built Fish Eagle Camp for tourists. David Roberts died in 1966, but Betty stayed on with her six children. Carolineâ??s father, Willie, was one of three friends who started up Island camp on Baringoâ??s Ol Kokwe Island, as well as creating Samatian Islandâ??s idyllic lodge. Meanwhile the old Fish Eagle Camp is todayâ??s Lake Baringo Club, while Betty still lives in her home beside Robertsâ?? Camp.
