Malu is situated on the Rift Valley escarpment to the east of Lake Naivasha. 11 km from the main Nairobi - Nakuru road and 14kms from Naivasha town. We are one-and-a-half hour’s drive from Nairobi (1hr 10mins on good tarmac, 20 mins on murram), and one hour’s drive from Nakuru. 4x4 vehicles are recommended, especially in the wet season. Malu has its own 4x4 Land cruisers – please contact us for rates for transfers, pick-ups & game drives.

Absorb the great outdoors from the luxury of the great indoors. This fabulously adventurous retreat is perfectly positioned; hidden in its own little world, to appreciate the scenery. Take-in a beautiful sunset on an evening's stroll around the verandah, or relax in the comfort of the spacious living areas and sumptuous bedrooms. The tree house is situated on a bend in the Malewa river with views both up and down stream. Occasionally Hippos play in the water below, after swimming up from the distant Lake Naivasha. Built high up in and amongst the famous ‘Naivasha Thorn’ trees, you can watch the black-and-white Colobus monkeys playing at their level. The superb bird life swooping down the river, the Fish Eagle too! Large wooden four poster beds make for a good night sleep and the sitting room the perfect place for fun and games with friends and children or to simply disappear into a good book.

The beautiful Mahindu House and cottages, beautifully built in the 1940’s by Italian POWs and looked after and lived in for many years by Janine who came to Kenya chasing a dream for a Parisian Lioness many years ago. Our two Mahindu cottages offer a luxurious contemporary feel, each having a large en-suite double bedroom. The cottages and situated within the stunning grounds of Mahindu Farmhouse, beside the Mahindu stream and just a 5 min drive from the main lodge. Feel free to enjoy the gardens of Mahindu farmhouse, which stretch upstream for some way if you cross the little wooden bridge over the Mahindu (a particularly good stream for children to have fun in!).

Forest & Ridge Walks There are a number of loops in the forest to correspond to your levels of energy and the time you would like to spend, ranging from a leisurely stroll without too much gradient, to more serious hikes up to the top of the escarpment. The Plunge Pool One of our walks leads to a small plunge pool, where warm water pours in from the surrounding rocks, making it a beautiful temperature (c.78’F, 25’C) for a quick dip. The pool is about 2 kms from the lodge – you may drive there (4x4), or we can arrange for a guide to walk with you (he will leave you in privacy at the pool!).
