Joy's Camp - Shaba National Reserve, Samburu Hotels and Lodges
Joys Camp, Shaba National Reserve, Shaba National Reserve, Samburu Hotels and Lodges Kenya (Safari Camp)
An elegant oasis in the arid lands of Samburu; Joyâ??s Camp is built on the site of Joy Adamsonâ??s tented home in Shaba National Reserve. The site was also home to Penny the leopard, the heroine of her last book. The camp overlooks a large natural spring where elephant and lion jostle for watering rights with herds of buffalo and the rare desert species of Beisa Oryx, reticulated giraffe and Grevyâ??s zebra. Each of the 10 sumptuous tents is uniquely decorated with Boran/Somali cloth design, handmade glass and the vibrant fabrics of the local nomadic tribes creating a chic, sophisticated and stylish camp. Each tent has breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, with its own private veranda - ideal for game viewing as well as relaxing, reading and soaking up the truly wild environs offered by Shaba. The eastern corner of the Samburu eco-system, Shaba is a secluded idyll; an arid landscape dotted with lush springs and rocky river gorges. Joyâ??s Camp is the perfect choice for discerning guests interested in a glimpse of Kenyan history, as well as those looking for an authentic wildlife experience combined with the comfort of a luxury-tented camp. Joyâ??s Camp, â??Forever Freeâ??!

Joyâ??s Camp is situated in Shaba National Reserve, which is 314kms from Nairobi. Shaba National Reserve is a semi desert with a rugged hilly terrain, with great rocky kopjes (small hills) and lots of springs supporting the abundant wildlife. The landscape is similar to nearby Samburu with riverine forests, acacias and doum palms. Shaba National Reserve was made famous for its association with the world famous conservationists Joy and George Adamson and the film â?? Born Freeâ??.
